About Us

SCAVENGER refers to the actions that we encourage – in the same way the birds scavenge sticks, or beavers scavenge logs, we scavenge second hand materials. As nest building is innate to birds and dam building is innate to beavers, creativity is innate to humans, which leads to the COLLECTIVE; we aim to form an inclusive community that nurtures the innate creativity inside all of us.

As a collective, our two objectives are:

Making art and design a more socially accessible practice, and;

Contributing to the circular economy in response to the climate emergency.

Everything that we do has these two objectives driving it. All of our work aims to demystify art and design, using the workshops and exhibitions as pedagogical tools to teach the public to design and craft sustainably, attempting to destigmatise “high brow” ideas about sustainability for the general public to engage in creatively. These events act as a means to and end of reducing waste in the city, redefining it as a resource. In our framework,  the social impact of creative sustainability works hand in hand with the environmental one to attempt to create a design culture that isn’t just environmentally sustainable, but also culturally sustainable in the long term.

our collective

Our partnerships form a group of organisations and individuals that work towards a common goal of contributing to the circular economy. We don’t aim to make a profit, or to increase the value of the materials that we transfer. Our aims are purely to provide an accessible pathway to the arts and to create a sustainable community – no strings attached. In everything we do we show the successes and failures, from the videos on our Instagram to the scuffs on our chairs. For us, it is paramount to break down the barriers between us and the public that we are providing a service to.
